Every club below has a public profile you can read before you apply. Applying is free for players.
Playing club rugby in Wales
- Season
- Super Rygbi Cymru 2026/27 starts on 12 September 2026, the regular season ends on 10 April 2027 and the grand final is on 9 May 2027. The National League runs alongside it.
- Leagues
- Super Rygbi Cymru is the semi-professional tier: Cardiff, Swansea, Carmarthen Quins, Pontypool, Ebbw Vale, Llandovery, Newport, Aberavon, Bridgend and RGC. Below it the WRU National League has 29 divisions, from the Community Premier Division (13 clubs) and Championship East and West (13 each) down to Division 6 by region and Divisions 1 to 3 North.
- Visa
- A Standard Visitor (£135, up to six months) may join an amateur club to gain experience in a sport but cannot be paid or take work. Australians, New Zealanders and Canadians aged 18 to 30, or 35 for some countries, can use the Youth Mobility Scheme (£340 plus the health surcharge) to live and work for up to 24 months, though not as a professional sportsperson. Paid rugby needs the International Sportsperson route and a governing body endorsement.
- Clearance
- World Rugby Regulation 4: a player leaving one union to play in another cannot be registered or play until the new union has received a Clearance from the old one. Ask your current club and union for it before you travel; it stays valid until replaced by a later one.
The Welsh pyramid is wide at the bottom: 29 divisions means a club within reach of almost every town, and most of them are amateur. Super Rygbi Cymru clubs are the ones with budgets, and a player good enough for that level should expect the same visa questions an English National League club asks.
The WRU publishes its league rules and fixtures through its club app rather than a public page, so ask the club for the current registration rules on overseas players before you commit; we could not read them ourselves.
